THE Banana Shire Council Australia Day Awards are now open and council is calling for nominations.
Whether it be someone you know who is always doing volunteer work, someone who is heavily involved in the local arts scene, a community group which puts back in the shire or an event that has lifted the spirits of the shire, they deserve to be nominated.
Maybe there is that one person in the sporting group, or a few individuals who are always there and willing to put their hands up. Nominate them all - the more nominations the better.
Last but not least, the senior and junior sportsperson of the year. Maybe you know a sportsperson who is achieving really good results and has worked hard.
If you know someone, something or a few people, nominate them.
The Central Telegraph will be profiling some nominations, so please get nominating!
Nominations require copies of press articles of the nominees. Please come and see us at The Central Telegraph office and we can help you out with this.
As the council shares the awards around each of the towns across the shire, the 2018 awards will be held at Goovigen.
There will be plenty of food, fun and entertainment on offer.
Australia Day 2018 will be hosted by the locals of Goovigen at the community hall.
The day will have a theme of "What it Means to Live in Australia” with various activities like dog-jumping, a ute competition, old Australian-made working tractor display, thong decorating, children's activities, raffles, prizes and more.
