Bikers revved up to support small town
DALE and Jackee Warry were laying in their swags, starring up at the stars when they came up with the concept for the Goovigen Rumble.
The Goovigen motorcycle enthusiasts were bedding at Blackwater after riding in a Poker Run.
Jackee turned to Dale and said: "Wouldn't it be nice to participate in one of these rides and then be able to sleep in our own bed that night?"
"We love riding and join up with a lot of other groups throughout Central Queensland on their poker runs or joy rides," Jackee said.
"We just thought it would be great to hold our own.
"Dale has lived in Goovigen for 48 years and has seen the town change a lot in that time.
"Unfortunately they don't have the fundraising events like they used, so we decided to hold a bike show and poker run and help raise funds for some of the town's community groups."
The inaugural Goovigen Rumble will be held this weekend, with bikes roaring off from the Kabra Pub at 11am on Saturday morning, heading to Duaringa and Baralaba for a sausage sizzle at the pub before heading to Goovigen via Wowan for the show and shine which kicks off at 3pm.
"Anybody who wants to join the ride at any of these locations is more than welcome to do so," Jackee explained.
Thanks to the generosity of a host of sponsors there will be 18 trophies up for grabs in a number of difference categories at the show and shine.
"We are also hosting the Undie 500, which will involve one bike, a rider, four pillions and a large pair of undies for each team," Jackie said.
"It will be a great laugh."
During the stop-over in Goovigen a live band will be performing, a movie will be screened for the kids and a bar and barbecue will be operating.
There will also be a 'blow-before-you-go' voluntary breath testing service available on Sunday morning, with the gold coin donation going towards the Goovigen school's end of year excursion.
Other money raised over the weekend will benefit the Goovigen Historical Society, Goovigen Progress Association and the Goovigen Tennis Club.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning, riders will continue the run en route to the finish at the Kabra Pub.
