Biloela man makes the cut for Capras

BILOELA Panthers player Peter Rogers has been selected to play for CQ Capras for the 2018 season.

Coach Kim Williams said he was pleased when Peter approached him saying he wanted to give it a go.

"Peter Rogers has been a standout for Biloela and Rockhampton Rustlers over the last couple of years,” he said.

"He has played at this level before but has had a number of years off setting up his own business.

"He just hasn't been able to commit to this level of football in Rocky.”

Now in his late 20s, Williams said Rogers still had a few years left in him.

"He expressed the desire to get back to this level; he is a front rower who will strengthen our pack,” Williams said.

"I have watched him throughout the last two years, he is a good hard working tough front rower, with a good work rate and will add maturity.

"I was pretty happy to get him.”

Rogers said he was excited to begin pre-season training and get into it.

"It will be good, I can't wait,” he said. "Something different, next level.”

"I've got a few years left in my career that I can play football and I want to finish on a good high.”

Rogers has been playing footy for 20 years. His first club was the Augathella meat ants when he was nine.

"I joined up the Panthers Cubs when I was 11 and then moved up to Panthers when I was 19,” he said.

"Then I moved to Brisbane and played with South Logan for a couple of years, went to the Sunny Coast and Newcastle.

"And I have been back in Bilo for about five years.”

Over the years, Rogers has lived and breathed footy.

"I guess it is just something you have done forever and you learn to love it," he said.

”I like the aggression, the physical side of it, the competitiveness."

Among a 20 player line up so far, Rogers is proud to be representing Biloela.

"It's awesome, to represent the town and put the town on the map," he said. ”Always proud of where we came from.”
