NETBALL Queensland announced the players of the 2017-18 Elite Development Program squad with a local Biloela girl making the team.

Christina McClure has made the cut for the program which will be delivered over three years, among Queensland's brightest young players in netball.

Netball Queensland High Performance General Manager Richard McInnes said the talented crop of players selected were evidence of the state's strong performance pathway.

"The multi-year graduated development program provides athletes with the education and guidance designed to see them prepared to deal with the on and off court challenges faced by elite players,” McInnes said.

McInnes said Christina McClure selection was evidence of North Queensland's strong focus on identifying and developing regional talent.

"Christina has showed immense potential and will be supported remotely from their home towns while they complete year 12,” he said.

"NQ has a strong affinity with regional athletes, which is evidenced by the likes of current Firebirds Laura Clemesha and Kimberley Jenner, plus club legends Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman.

"We look forward to continuing our identification and support of these players as we work towards our aim of helping establish elite careers for as many Queensland athletes as possible.”

Christina trialled out for the squad recently in the Queensland 17/U selection process and is beside herself for making the cut.

"It is an honour and I am really looking forward to seeing what it has install,” Christina said.

Christina has been playing in the Emergent Talent Squad for the past year and she spent about three months training in the U17 QLD teams.

"I started out early on going to academy camps, then went to regionals and then I made State and I have just progressed through the higher stages,” Christina said.

The young 16 year old says she is looking forward to the training in the Elite squad.

"Just working with high level coaches and programs,” Christina said.

"And I am looking forward to developing my skills further.

Christina is in her senior school years and is looking at studying Optometry.

”I'd like to keep playing netball but my main goal is going to university, I am looking at Brisbane at this stage so hopefully I can still play at a higher level down there,” she said.
