ELECTION: Meet the latest candidate
DIVISION 1 Banana Shire Council candidate, John Ramsey.
As a young married couple, Trudy and I and son Daniel, moved to Biloela in January 1984.
I was employed as a shiftman plant operator at Boundary Hill Mine from then until 2009.
We lived first in the two caravan parks in Biloela, then a house in Ward Crescent, then moved to Goovigen in 1988, where we bought a farm to run cattle and raise our family.
We have raised 9 children, who have been schooled at Goovigen, St. Josephs Catholic School, Biloela State High school and boarding schools.
Our youngest is presently in year 11 at Biloela State High.
From 2008 to 2018 we owned and operated a motel lease together with our daughter and son-in-law.
Currently we work on our home farm at Goovigen.
Over many years I have been a supporter of family friendly rosters.
I believe that strong families are the bedrock of our society, and need support by all their local organisations.
I have always been involved in supporting our local schools in the education of our children being president of the Goovigen P & C for six years and president of St Josephs P & F for two years.
I was a founding President of the Biloela Right To Life Group which has lobbied our local politicians over the years.
I have been involved in sporting clubs, coaching and managing junior rugby league teams.
As a father of nine children I understand the constraints that finances can place on families, young people and the elderly.
I bring to the table an understanding of the needs of many different people – young people just leaving school looking for work/study opportunities, young families, businesses and the elderly.
I have a passion for social issues to be addressed such as drug issues, pornography and keeping our communities safe and wholesome.
Supporting, welcoming and encouraging community members to contribute their ideas and energies I believe comes through listening carefully to all.
