Ladies make us proud on their way to the top

AS ROUND nine of the 21 round Gladstone competition came to a close at the weekend, Valleys Women's Division were the only Biloela team to come out on top.

All teams played away games with Valleys Men's 1st division playing Clinton at their Gladstone fields.

Clinton defeated the Valleys in a score of six to nil, leaving Valleys fourth on the ladder.

Valleys Men's 2nd division played against Boyne Island and Tannum Sands and were unable to score as well.

The final score was four to nil with second division now eight out of 10 on the ladder.

Valleys women's division took their own lead and won their game against Central Cougars.

The game was held at Sun Valley Oval in Gladstone and Coach Melissa Kummerow said it was a good game.

"It was a very awesome feeling to be the only ones to win and I am very proud of the girls,” Melissa said.

With only 11 players able to travel to Gladstone, it meant the team had no subs for the whole game.

"Everyone put in a huge effort, it is always hard without subs,” Melissa said.

The game got off to a rocky start but the Valleys ladies managed to turn it around.

"It was a bit of a worry at the start as the other team scored a goal off a penalty in the first few minutes of the game,” Melissa said.

"But a couple of minutes later Silivia Trammart scored a goal and then she got another one and then we got two more in the second half.”

Valleys women's division have been slowly sneaking up the ladder as they won their last three games and they now are sitting on third on the ladder.

"We are feeling a lot more confident, for us being able to do something like that with no subs from a team that is much more older and experienced and beat them 4-1,” Melissa said.

"I think we have a good very chance.”

This weekend will be more away games with Men's 1st division playing Yaralla and Men's 2nd division playing Central Black both in Gladstone.

Women's will play Calliope Crusaders in Calliope.

The next home games for Valleys in Biloela will be on June 18.
