Mowers cutting into Movember for money

THE Movember Mow-A-Thon is back to bring the Movember movement to the region.

In it’s second edition, the Callide Valley Mower service’s Movember Mow-A-Thon is a friendly fundraising competition in partnership with Stihl that raises funds for the Movember Foundation.

The Movember Foundation raises funds and awareness for men’s health, in particular for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Michelle Warry, from the Callide Valley Mower Service, and her husband came up with the idea of the Mow-A-Thon after Mrs Warry’s father died from cancer.

“Our competitors last year were keen to do it straight after we finished it,” Mrs Warry said.

“It’s an important cause but the event is run in a lighthearted way so you can have fun while creating that awareness around the Movember Foundation and what they stand for.”

Teams of four people will walk a continual loop pushing a replica mower for two hours with the team that’s walked the most laps wining.

Each team pays an entry fee of $100 which can be fundraised or donated by the team.

Each team is asked to fundraise over and above their entry fee with a prize for the team with the highest funds raised.

The event fundraising total target has been set at $1000.

For details and to nominate phone the Callide Valley Mower Service on 49921494.

It will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 4pm at the Biloela Showgrounds.

“We encourage all the teams to dress up again,” Mrs Warry said.

“We’ve had a fellow at the power station grow a moustache and shave it off last year and they’ve been doing onsite fundraising to help us campaign.”
