Mt Murchison kids go exploring
AS PART of the humanities and social sciences studies this term, students from the Prep to Year 2 have been on an exciting exploratory adventure of the Biloela community.
The adventure started with a visit to the Biloela Lions Park, where students had to identify natural, managed and constructed features of the park.
They were also fortunate to be able to sneak in a little play while they were there.
Next stop was the Biloela Post Office where Michaela gave the students a fabulous tour of the workings of the post office.
The children were excited to see how our parcels and mail move in a systematic manner.
The highlight for many of the students was to be up close and personal with a postie bike. Students also posted a pre-written letter while they were visiting.
The school appreciated the excellent manner in which Michaela guided the students through this real life learning experience.
The final destination was the Banana Shire Council Community Resource Centre. Pam and Donna were excellent hosts during the visit.
The students made their own lunches and had a tour of the facility.
They were astounded by the amazing resources and would have happily taken one of everything back to school with them!
Students were able to use the outdoor play facilities which inspired creative play.
The day ended with a story in the cool air-conditioning lounging in beanbags, cushions and couches.
They were totally amazed by this fabulous facility.
A big thanks to Pam and Donna for making sure that the students had a great experience.
Step Into Prep
MT MURCHISON State School has started its annual Step into Prep Program, which is scheduled over four consecutive weeks this term.
Six happy Pre-Prep students started the program and have shown their readiness for school in 2020.
It is not too late for your child to join the Mt Murchie family for Prep in 2020 and we encourage anyone considering our Early Years setting to contact the Admin team to ensure engagement in the Step into Prep program.
MT MURCHISON is making the step to do NAPLAN online in 2020. We have conducted a School Readiness Test this term with the students in Years 3-6. This provided valuable information for our school to make sure we are technically ready for next year.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the format of this digital assessment and the trial proved successful.
IMPACT Online Learning Extension
THIS term we have 12 students across Years 2-6 who are engaged in a range of extension programs through the Distance Education IMPACT Program.
These students are working in a digital forum with students from all over Queensland.
The programs include Critical Thinking, Comprehend This, Solve It maths and Web Coding. All students are not only learning but are embracing working in the digital environment.
We have plans to continue this mode of extension in 2020.
As we head into the final weeks of 2019, we are excited with all of our planned school events. Year 6 Graduation, Awards Evening, student and staff Christmas luncheon, PCYC Day, Star Day, Biloela State High School Transition and Religious Instruction Christmas Play.
While this is all occurring, we are also busily working to finalise our plans for a brand new Mutlipurpose Court and our whole community is very excited that our children will have greater access to the Health and Physical Education Curriculum and facility to cater for their daily play.
