A MUSIC festival is headed for Biloela and a chart-topping band have already been locked in.
Mark Di Ruggiero was born and bred in Biloela, returning some 14 months ago after living in Rockhampton for 20 years.
"I just want to try and get something happening for the town,” he said. "Why can't we show we can play with the big boys and we don't have to travel to Brissy or Gympie.”
Titled the VDMFest, Newcastle-based rock-edged country band, Hurricane Fall will be performing.
The band is famous for their debut self-titled EP, which peaked on the iTunes Country Music Chart and their second single, How We Get Down, which debuted at No.4.
Organiser Mark hopes hopes to get some more big name artists in, including some locals.
"I am in talks with some other bands at the moment so we will see what happens,” he said.
"I will be running a little competition for local artists and whoever wins will get to open.”
The event is planned for October 7 and Mark has seen some good responses on Facebook so far.
"I am not sure how Facebook works but it seems to have reached 11,000 people so far,” Mark said. "I have started to get a lot of questions and I hope it keeps up.”
Funding the event is Mark himself but he is looking for sponsorship.
"Bit of my own money and am trying to get a bit of community sponsorship,” Mark said.
"Hopefully it comes off and I can turn it into an annual event.”
