One for every biker
NOW in its 10th year, the Theodore Trail Ride returns with motorbike riders all of ages across the region taking part in this fundraiser.
Set between the towns of Theodore and Cracow at Gyrandah station, the two day event offers thrilling riding with big crowds, great food and some entertainment.
Event co-ordinator and Theodore State School P&C president Lindsay Christensen, said there were tracks suited to every rider's ability.
"There's plenty of both easy and hard sections for people to choose,” Christensen said.
"I've got an 11 year-old son and he's able to ride all the open tracks by taking the easy sections so there's nothing to hard for everyone.
"Good fun family weekend with tracks for everyone who can ride.
"We've got a good run down the Dawson river in among the palm trees.”
Serving as a major fundraiser for Theodore State School, the Theodore Trail Ride has some new features this time around.
"Being our 10th year we're raffling off a Honda CRF450L from Active Motorcycles Biloela worth $13,500,” Christensen said.
"We've got a new camp area this year at Gyrandah in Cracow.
"A whole new day one open track in all new country, and so is the novice track on day two.”
Typically drawing a crowd of 600 competitors and 1200 spectators, the Trail Ride offers up ample food, drinks and entertainment for everyone.
"Hot showers, toilets, it's all well catered for,” Christensen said.
"Plenty of good food for everyone, Jessica from Theodore Home and Gardens is doing catering and the Theodore RSL run a bar on Saturday night.
"And the Theodore State School student council will run coffee and soft drinks.
"On Saturday night we'll have a video or slideshow of the day's riding and 10 years of our trail rides.
"On Sunday morning before we start we have the multi draw raffle with everyone's number in it with plenty of prizes, as well as the major raffle with the Honda CRF450L up for grabs.
"The motorcycle is our first prize, second is an Engel fridge and third is a Weber barbecue.”
Christensen also laid out the logistics and distances of the trail ride tracks over the two days.
"Day one we have 30km of open track and 15km novice track with a pee-wee track for the kids,” Christensen said.
"Day two is the 20km open track, 15km novice track.
"Two different tracks for each day.”
Christensen reassured participants that the Trail Ride could fit every rider's skill-set.
"We don't make the tracks too hard; everyone should be able to get around,” Christensen said.
"Plenty of sweep riders and recovery vehicles to look after everyone.
"I always tell them on Sunday morning at the riders briefing that the beers are always sweeter and the stories bigger on Saturday night if they ride within themselves.”
The Theodore Trail ride runs across August 10-11 from Gyrandah station, Eidsvold Theodore Road.
