Rainfall a miraculous sight for dry community

THERE has been some relief for farmers and residents of Biloela with heavy rainfall hitting the region this afternoon.

The heavens opened up at around 2.45pm as shop-workers came out onto the street, taking pictures and video of some rare rainfall for the drought declared region.

Metrologist David from the Bureau of Meteorology said their rain gauges in the area were recording some healthy falls.

“Our rain gauges around the area have recorded 15-20 millimetres so far today,” David said.

“There’s plenty of showers and storms around the Capricornia region this afternoon and heading south into neighbouring areas.

“These storms will continue through the rest of the afternoon.”

The occasional strike of lightning continues to appear over Biloela with the rain acting as welcome news for this very dry part of Queensland.

However the rainfall does have an expiration date.

“There’ll be a little bit of rainfall around tomorrow morning,” David said.

“Beyond that the weather pattern changes and becomes sunny and stable and gets hot over the weekend and into next week.”

The last time Biloela recorded at least 20 millimetres of rainfall was across the month of June this year.
