There’s a big party coming and you’re invited
FAMILY friendly and welcoming is how Biloela Rugby Union Club’s secretary Leesa Hollingworth would describe the atmosphere of her club.
Ahead of the season starting on March 28, the club is doing something different this year and launching with a party.
Hollingworth said the party was a gathering to invite players, supporters and sponsors all down to the field and to celebrate in preparation for the start for the season.
“The best thing about being a member of this club is that the club is very accepting and you’re made to feel welcome,” Hollingworth said.
“We want mum, dad and the kids supporting our team.”
Hollingworth said the club had got on board a number of Samoan and Fijian workers to bolster their senior ranks, with pre-season training attendance very strong across the men’s and ladies teams.
“There’s no shame if you haven’t played before,” Hollingworth said.
“We’ve had people come down who have never played and have smashed it and been amazing.”
In the past the club has launched its season with a more exclusive function with senior members and club sponsor representatives attending.
This year though, Hollingworth said, it was time to really open up the doors and introduce everybody to rugby in Biloela.
“Remind everyone we are a family, we welcome everybody and it’s an atmosphere where people can come down and give it a go,” Hollingworth said.
“We’re really hoping we have more players come on and fill our ranks in both seniors and juniors.
“Some people aren’t 100 per cent sure where are our fields are because they are not in the middle of town like the league guys.
“We’re hoping this party will be more of a success than our season launches in the past.”
The party is open to community members of all ages and will include a barbecue lunch and bar service.
