MOUNTAIN BIKING: "Mr Consistency” Sean Hall has raced to victory in the elite class in Round 3 of the Central Queensland Cross Country Series.
Perfect race conditions greeted Hall and the 50 other riders who competed in nine classes at Seeonee Park Scout Reserve on Sunday morning.
Rockhampton Mountain Bike Club president Dan Witten said it was an excellent turnout for the third round of the five-round series.
"The usual suspects featured on top of the leaderboard,” he said.
"The absence of Michael England, who is representing Australia at the world marathon championships, opened up the elite men's field and 'Mr Consistency' Sean Hall stepped up big time.
"It was really gratifying to see plenty of riders in the under-15 class, as well as a lot of novice riders.”
The cross country series is being staged in Rockhampton and Gladstone, with three rounds in Rockhampton and two in Gladstone.
Witten said it offered a great opportunity for riders to compete at different venues, with the next round to be staged at First Turkey on August 20.
"The combined series has really fired things up and is getting plenty of people involved,” he said.
"The riders are ranked on their best four performances and there are also points for the two clubs on offer. Just by participating, you can help your club up in the standings.”
Meanwhile, Rockhampton will be in the national spotlight when it hosts Round 4 of the 2017 National Gravity Enduro Series on July 8 and 9.
A large contingent of local riders will mix it with some of the country's best on the challenging trails at First Turkey Mountain Bike Reserve.
