Warriors lying in wait for Biloela rivals

RUGBY LEAGUE: Proud indigenous team the Woorabinda Warriors were desperate to have a home game in Round 7 of the Rockhampton Rugby League.

With NRL clubs around the country celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people this weekend, they worked around the clock to be hosts.

Sadly, they missed their deadline by one week and will travel to Baralaba to play the Biloela Panthers in the local derby.

Both teams are coming off contrasting results. Biloela trounced Fitzroys 72-0 while Woorabinda were comprehensively beat by premiers Norths.

"We are going pretty good, the game last week didn't indicate anything to be honest," coach Reggie Cressbrook said.

"Norths got away early and we just dropped our heads, they were beating the clock after 15 and our boys found it mentally hard.

"We have to get those thoughts out of our heads and hang tough. With our attack, three quick tries is not out of the question.

"I think football is 90% mental. They have it physically, so we just have to make sure they are mentally ready and confident."

Buoyed on by their big win, Cressbrook believes the Panthers will be a formidable foe, but his side is planning an ambush.

"Going off their win on the weekend, they will be full of confidence, they could be rubbing their hands together," he said.

"I just wish we were playing them at home.

"But if we get our heads right and stay in the game, I know we can get the points."

Cressbrook singled out a few of his stars who have gone above and beyond for the jersey.

"Ex Brothers lad Hayden Buckman is going really well for me, he rotates between fullback and centre and is a handful," he said.

"Graham Thomas in the halves brings really good talk and organisation. Steven Williams is so elusive and a good defender.

"And we have two young superstars in Kejanu Doyle and Joseph Oakley, if they knuckle down the sky is the limit for them."
